Why is App for WhatsApp asking for my AppleID credentials?

When downloading an App from the App Store the App bundle as well as a digital receipt generated by Apple is stored on your device.

When launching App for WhatsApp, the App is trying to verify this receipt in order to check that the installation is genuine and also to determine which In-App purchases were made (App for WhatsApp One only).

In some rare cases it is possible that during the download process of the App, the receipt does not get stored along the App bundle. Therefore the verification fails and App for WhatsApp sends a request to the system (iOS/macOS) to refresh this receipt from the App Store. After that the system asks you to enter your AppleID credentials in order to connect to the store and to fetch the receipt.

It is very important to understand that your AppleID and password are never made readable to us or our App and that all the processing is handled by iOS/macOS itself.

This process is absolutely necessary in order to fight software piracy, which we had to deal with a lot unfortunately.

Thank you for your understanding.
